Choosing the Right Operating System for Shades

There are often many different ways to do a straightforward thing. We all have unique thought processes, so we usually approach tasks in different ways; whether it’s simply going from left to right versus the right to left when cleaning or something more complex such as technological troubleshooting, many outcomes have more than one way of achieving them. For instance, window treatments open and close. But how you open and close them can change depending on your chosen product and style. With Hunter Douglas window treatments from South Kendall Interiors, you can select various operating systems depending on your preferred type.

Room with Hunter Douglas PowerView Automation System for window shades

You’re probably familiar with traditional operating systems for window treatments that use cords to raise and lower the shade or blinds. With the continuous cord loop, your window treatments function similarly, but there are no long, dangling cords posing a hazard. Instead, the continuous cord loop is like a pulley system, raising and lowering the shade. Similarly, the Ultraglide® system has a single retractable cord or a wand for the same enhanced safety.

While traditional options are familiar, more modern options offer better safety and convenience. For example, some operating systems rely on your hand to guide the window treatment. With the Literise® system, you have to push up to raise the shade or pull down to lower it. The SimpleLift™ system uses the same movements but has a bottom rail specifically contoured for your grip.

As convenient as using your hand to control your window treatments, it can still be a bit of a hassle if you have to stretch and reach constantly. With SoftTouch™ Motorization, you just have to pull down or push up on a wand. This means that no matter where your shade or window treatment is, you don’t have to bend over or reach up. Instead, you just reach for the wand, gently pulling down or pushing up.

As simple as all these systems are, there is just one aspect that can get tiring if you have a large home or difficult-to-reach windows. Each method requires you to go directly to the window to adjust the blinds or shades. With PowerView® Automation, that is no longer a requirement. PowerView Automation is a wireless operating system that lets you control your window treatments from your phone, tablet, or remote. You can stay in one spot, whether you’re controlling your shades one at a time or in a group. You can even use the PowerView app to schedule the movement of your shadows. By setting a scene for your shades to open at sunrise, you can naturally wake up to the gentle light of dawn. Similarly, you can use the lowering of your shades for cueing the kids to turn off the TV and get ready for bed.
